On Regardless Trivia
- Charles Hawtrey had the start of a long run disagreement
with Peter Rogers while filming Regardless, concerning his billing, stating
that "He was a comedian", but Rogers was having none of it, and in
fact Hawtrey had less to do in this film than he might.
- Terence Longden's role was destined for Leslie
Phillips, but he bailed out before the start of filming, expressing concerns
over typecasting, so Hudis re-shaped and reduced the role.
- Whilst filming the scene at a wine tasting party,
Gerald Thomas switched the non alcoholic drink in Joan Sims' glass for real
Gin, look at her face for the first mouthful.
- Renowned boxer Freddie Mills plays the boxer
Lefty Vincent.
- Ralph Thomas co-directed this film with his
brother Gerald Thomas but didn't receive credit.
- Yoki the chimp became disruptive whilst
filming at the house and started to smash up ornaments and had to the calmed
down before filming could continue.
- Hattie Jacques originally had a major role
but had to withdraw due to illness and only appears in a tiny cameo. Joan
Sims' character was expanded and Liz Fraser was brought in to fill in.
- In a rare exception to the Carry On rule,
the line "I'll take you, but not your brother", the taxi driver says to
Kenneth Williams and Yoki the monkey was ad-libbed.
- Nicholas Parsons was never considered for
another Carry On role as Gerald Thomas told his agent that Parsons was fussy
asking for another take.
- This was considered writer Norman Hudis'
least favourite as he thought the plot and dialogue was a mess, and had real
hatred for the sequence where Sam Twist tried to give up smoking,
considering it a rushed plot and no punchline.
